Extreme Dieting – What Everyone Should Be Aware Of

Most people will give some though to their health when they are starting a new diet. Instead of being the last thing that people consider it needs to be right at the top of the list. The reason for trying a new diet is usually for the purpose of weight loss, but a diet affects general health in such a big way that the health aspects need to be considered above all other things. There too many dangers possible when the urge to lose weight becomes extreme.
Eating disorders are something that are most often thought of in relation to teenage girls. That is not the full case though. Quite often women that have hit the point in life where they are starting to gain middle age or menopause weight, begin their own extreme dieting. A diet will sometimes start off to reduce fat, at the behest of a doctor, and then become more like starvation. Instead of sticking to a food plan that is sensible, women become obsessed with it the perfect diet for them and lose track of the reality of harming themselves.
The new epidemic in eating disorders is associated with middle aged women and is causing much alarm with doctors who treat these disorders. Not only is anorexia and bulimia dangerous, but they are killing not just teens but their older middle aged counterparts. The seriousness of this problem says that one in five women that suffer from anorexia will die. The levels of such extremes can witness the recommended daily calorie intake of 2000 to drop below 500 in women in these cases.
It seems that these extreme diets start out innocently enough. Eating less fat and cutting back on food that are high in white flour and sugar is a good diet plan. It is when it becomes emotional and obsessive that there is trouble. There is the natural urge to eat fewer “bad” things, which is a good part of dieting, but then there is the constant urge that many women suffering from anorexia feel that is like someone in their head telling them constantly not to eat anything more basically.
New research and theories are suggesting that a persons life attitudes may have more to do with the onset of anorexia and not so much about their need to lose weight. While the need to loose some pounds becomes eminent with each passing in front of the mirror, finding a safe way to achieve the goal is better for optimal and continued health. If you can stay away from the many fly by night diets found on the internet or the ones that seem to be the new Hollywood craze and seek the help of your doctor or primary care physician, you will get good solid advise that will serve your weight goals and health very well.
